Zachary Morgan, MD, Appointed as the New Medicine 2 Firm Medical Director

We are delighted to announce and extend our congratulations to Dr. Zachary Morgan on being appointed as the Medicine 2 Firm Medical Director for units 5400 and 5500! Previously, this esteemed position was held by Dr. Stephanie Conner. However, at the end of this academic year, Dr. Conner will be transitioning to Columbia University in New York City, assuming the role of Section Chief for Hospital Medicine. We would like to express our gratitude for Dr. Conner’s exceptional contributions during her time as the Medical Director and for her dedication to the Division of Hospital Medicine and beyond. As Dr. Conner transitions out of this role, we are thrilled to welcome Dr. Zachary Morgan as the new leader in this capacity.

Dr. Morgan hails from Memphis, TN. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Rhodes College in 2010. He pursued his medical education at the University of Tennessee and completed his Internal Medicine training at BJH/WashU. Dr. Morgan joined the Division of Hospital Medicine in 2018, where he became the Co-Director of Patient Care Operations, as well as a member of the Leadership Team, and Education Committee. He directs the Hospital Medicine portion of the residency noon conference curriculum, lecturing on topics such as VTE prophylaxis, perioperative medicine, and interventions to reduce hospital length of stay.

Dr. Morgan is joining our Medical Director team for the inpatient teaching services, working alongside Dr. Margo Girardi (Med 1 units 14300/14400/14500) and Dr. Mustafa Husaini (Cardiology units 9200 and 10200). The medical directors in the teaching service have dual roles, assisting with Department of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital operations, as well as ensuring patient safety and quality in the medicine inpatient units. As core faculty members of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, the Medicine Firm Directors collaborate closely with hospital, nursing, and Department of Medicine leadership to enhance patient care delivery, patient experience, and optimize the learning experience for residents.
