One prominent commitment of hospital medicine is the development of evidence-based inpatient medicine practices. By creating publications such as the Consult Manual, hospital medicine physicians have increased internal medicine residents’ and medical students’ exposure to the principles of quality inpatient care. Their unique focus on inpatient care provides hospital medicine physicians with a practical experience base to develop sound and sensible management guidelines.

In February 2024, the Division of Hospital Medicine launched a research committee. This committee will focus on cataloging research, discussing available resources at WashU, exploring methodologies, and providing opportunities for work-in-progress presentations. These initiatives will allow faculty to present their research project ideas and receive feedback.
