Patricia Litkowksi, MD, and Yash Shah, MD, Present New Research at the Society for Hospital Medicine Research Day

Dr. Litkowski and Dr. Shah shared results from their recent retrospective review at this year’s regional Society for Hospital Medicine Research Day. Their work focuses on reducing readmissions in hospitalized patients with cancer. They reviewed the Epic Readmission Risk score which has been previously validated in general medicine populations to examine if it would be similarly helpful in cancer patients. They found that the Epic Readmission Risk score was not accurate when predicting risk of a patient with cancer returning to the hospital and performed about as well as a “flip of a coin.” Dr. Shah said, “We enjoyed getting the chance to present our work at a regional meeting and also had the opportunity to discuss our findings with other hospitalists from our region.”

Several other hospitalists joined Dr. Litkowski and Dr. Shah to represent our division, including Dr. Tahman, Dr. El Sawda, Dr. Richard, and Dr. Atwood.
