Dr. Vivek Hansalia joined the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine as an Instructor in June of 2022. He was born in New York City, and lived in Dix Hills, New York before moving to Smyrna, Georgia. He attended Vanderbilt University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Engineering degree in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Biology in 2015. During this time, he worked with Nashville Public Schools to help teach and implement science lessons with the organization Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science, and he participated in sports radio broadcasting as well with WRVU Nashville. He then attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and received his medical degree in 2019.
While there, he developed his interests in internal medicine through his pre-clinical and clinical education and research projects within the department. He also served as a student interviewer for medical school admissions, and he helped first year medical students develop clinical skills as a member of the clinical mentoring program. Dr. Hansalia completed his internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital / Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis prior to joining the division in 2022. He continued to develop his interests in general internal medicine through his time on the teaching services during his residency and in various projects with the Department of Medicine and Division of Gastroenterology. His current areas of interest are general internal medicine with focus on inpatient care with special interest in gastroenterology. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, cooking, trivia, and spending time with his family and friends.
