The Washington University SAFE (Supporting a Fair Environment) Program allows individuals to report their experiences in the learning environment. On March 8th, Dr. Dennis Chang received an Accolade for contributing to a positive learning environment.
One of his students had wonderful feedback for him, stating, “This faculty member did such a great job of fostering a positive, safe learning environment. He made a point to elicit our goals and worked with us to help uplift those goals throughout the rotation. He was in tune with our knowledge base and did such a great job of pushing us to try new things and take on new roles on the team–but did so in a way that felt encouraging, and supportive. I felt that I was able to grow as a student in an environment where I knew that it was ok to speak up about my ideas and voice my clinical reasoning without being worried that I would be shut down if I made a mistake. In addition to his teaching skills, this faculty member also set a great example for ways to connect with interprofessional team members and ways to communicate compassionately with patients & their families through more emotionally heavy scenarios.”
