Celebrating Women in Medicine

Dr. Antonia Novello

I want to be able to look back someday and say, “I did make a difference.” Whether it was to open the minds of people to think that a woman can do a good job, or whether it’s the fact that so many kids out there think that they could be like me.”

From an entirely male faculty at its inception to nearly 60 female hospitalists in 2025, the Division of Hospital Medicine has made significant strides towards improving diversity and inclusion over the years. We still have a long way to go, but we do acknowledge the importance of celebrating all that has been accomplished by both the women in medicine throughout history, and the amazing women physicians in our division. Each year, Women’s Physician Day is on February 3rd. Our faculty and staff had a wonderful time celebrating our female hospitalists by gathering for lunch and enjoying a slideshow presentation featuring the women of WashU Hospital Medicine.
