The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Leadership Academy is a yearly conference for hospitalists interested in developing their leadership skillset with several educational tracks to choose from. In 2024, the Leadership Academy took place from October 28-31 in beautiful Rancho Palos Verdes, California, with course tracks including ‘Strategic Essentials,’ ‘Influential Management,’ and ‘Mastering Teamwork.’ Mark Williams, MD was a course director for the ‘Mastering Teamwork’ track. This track focused on leading, managing, and motivating teams in complex hospital environments. Dr. Williams provided insightful lectures for attendees on subjects such as leadership through teamwork, applying research on teamwork to achieve goals, meeting management fundamentals through tactical leadership, success through addressing dysfunctions of teams, and problems and solutions.
Three hospitalists from the division were in attendance- Radha Devi, MD, Cady Edwards, MD, and Katy Filson, MD. They had a wonderful time learning, networking, and enjoying the company of their fellow hospitalists. We’re happy that they were able to take this opportunity for educational enrichment, and we’re excited to hear more about what they’ve learned and how it will impact hospital medicine.
