The Society of Hospital Medicine annual Converge conference will be taking place from April 22-25, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each year, in preparation for the conference’s scientific abstract competition, the St. Louis branch of the SHM holds their own abstract competition in which the top poster is automatically accepted to the national conference. This abstract competition is a wonderful opportunity for students, residents, and fellows to win a trip to the Converge conference, expenses paid.
This year, the abstract competition took place on November 7th, with three submission categories: research, innovations, and clinical vignettes. Hospitalist Crystal Atwood, MD, was instrumental in facilitating the competition from coordinating the submissions, to grading posters, and running the event.
Patricia Litkowski, MD, and Zach Morgan, MD, both mentored students for the competition. Dr. Litkowski mentored Sydney Blum, first year medical resident, on a case of mycoplasma pneumonia induced RIME. They were thrilled to hear that Dr. Blum won second place in the oral competition. Dr. Litkowski and Dr. Morgan mentored Eli Aminpour, phase 2 medical student, on his presentation about a patient with Hansen’s disease (leprosy). Eli won the oral presentation and will be going to SHM Converge 2025! Congratulations to Eli Aminpour, and thank you to Dr. Litkowski and Dr. Morgan for your excellent mentorship.
