Medical students and residents who submit an abstract by December 3rd to SHM’s Research, Innovations and Clinical Vignettes Scientific Abstract and Poster Competition for Hospital Medicine 2019 (the Society of Hospital Medicine annual meeting) and receive confirmation that their abstract was accepted, will be eligible to compete.

Two Scholarship Award Recipients will each receive $1000 towards:

  • One-year SHM Membership
  • Complimentary Registration to attend HM19 in National Harbor, MD
  • Poster Printing Expenses
  • Airfare and Hotel Accommodations

The kick-off event took place on November 15th at Scape American Bistro. Sixteen posters showcasing the work from previous abstracts from hospitalists, residents, and medical students were on display that evening.

To commemorate SHM St. Louis Chapter’s 8th anniversary, Dr. Ron Greeno, MD, FCCP, MHM, and past president of the Society of Hospital Medicine was the invited speaker who discussed MACRA, the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015. MACRA provides new guidelines on ways physicians who care for Medicare beneficiaries will be paid based on quality, resources utilized, practice improvement, and use of electronic health records. His keynote address was titled “Under the MACRA scope: A Hospitalist Perspective.”
