Dr. Hajar El Amri joined Hospital Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 2026. She practices as a hospitalist at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Dr. El Amri was born and raised in Morocco and earned her medical degree in Casablanca. She completed a medical school thesis focused on maternal mortality at the national obstetric center, an experience that shaped her long-standing interest in healthcare disparities and systems-based approaches to improving patient outcomes. She completed her Internal Medicine residency training at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. During residency, Dr. El Amri was actively engaged in scholarly and quality improvement initiatives and developed interests in hospital medicine, oncology, hematology, and endocrinology. Her academic work has focused on improving access to patient-centered cancer care, with particular attention to disparities in breast reconstruction following mastectomy.
Dr. El Amri has presented her scholarly work at national and regional academic meetings, including the American College of Physicians Illinois Chapter and ENDO society, where she presented posters on spontaneous coronary artery dissection and nasopharyngeal cancer. She remains committed to continued scholarly engagement and quality improvement efforts aimed at enhancing inpatient care delivery and clinical outcomes.
