Patricia Litkowski, MD, and Mark V. Williams, MD, FACP, MHM, and their multidisciplinary team have been awarded a prestigious $50,000 Big Ideas Grant from Washington University’s Healthcare Innovation Lab and the Institute for Informatics, Data Science, and Biostatistics (I2DB). Collaborating with Dr. Chenyang Lu from the McElvey School of Engineering as well as leaders from Siteman Cancer Center, their project will use state-of-the art machine learning techniques to predict the medical stability of hospitalized cancer patients to determine their readiness for discharge from the hospital. By leveraging the power of AI in this novel way, their project hopes to enhance both patient outcomes and hospital efficiency. Now in its 6th year, the Big Ideas Grant program supports projects that utilize innovative technologies to drive clinically relevant advancements in healthcare.
