The Society of Hospital Medicine held its annual Leadership Academy program from November 7-10, 2022 in Colorado Springs, CO. It is the only leadership program built for hospitalists. The SHM Leadership Academy program offers four leadership courses – Strategic Essentials, Influential Management, Mastering Teamwork, and Capstone. Each course is aimed to provide hospitalists with skills that include communication and conflict resolution, understanding core financial measures of healthcare systems, and healthcare metrics that drive hospitals to succeed. It is an excellent opportunity to network with leaders of Hospital Medicine throughout the country. Patricia Litkowski, MD, was invited to attend the Strategic Essentials course, which focused on strengthening leadership by executing key communication skills, as well as by implementing change through successful leadership planning and a shared vision. Division of Hospital Medicine Chief, Mark V. Williams, MD, FACP, MHM, was also in attendance as an annual invited speaker. Dr. Williams presented a day-long seminar on Leadership Through Teamwork in the Mastering Teamwork course.
This was an amazing conference and I learned so much. The presentations were exceptional, and I especially enjoyed the chance to meet with colleagues at peer institutions around the country to discuss shared experiences and challenges.”
