We are pleased to announce that the Executive Faculty has approved the appointment of Dr. Christine Heumann as Assistant Professor of Medicine.
Dr. Christine Heumann earned her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2011. While there, she was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She then completed an internal medicine residency at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in 2014 and an infectious disease fellowship at the University of Washington Medical Center in 2016. While at the University of Washington, she earned a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology and began to develop her clinical and research interests in public health, HIV, and STDs. After fellowship, Dr. Heumann joined the Division of Infectious Diseases at Wayne State University. While there, she was the medical director of the Detroit Public Health STD Clinic. In this role, she developed programs for HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), and the clinic was awarded Outstanding Achievement in HIV Prevention from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Heumann also received grant funding to start an HIV care program in the STD clinic for patients newly diagnosed with HIV, with a goal of improving the HIV care continuum. While at Wayne State, Dr. Heumann was the site principal investigator for a prospective cohort study evaluating the implementation of HIV PrEP in Detroit, Michigan and was also the principal investigator for a study evaluating sexual healthcare preferences.
In July of 2018, Dr. Heumann joined the Division of Hospital Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis as a bone marrow transplant hospitalist where she continues to care for immunocompromised patients.
