Meet Our New Hospitalist – Lauren Jurkowski, MD

Lauren Jurkowski, MD

Dr. Lauren Jurkowski joined the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as an Instructor in July of 2021. She was born in the northwest Chicago suburbs and lived there for most of her life. She received her undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University and graduated cum laude with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She attended medical school at Chicago Medical School and received her medical degree in 2018. During medical school she worked on research projects on Huntington disease. She taught other medical students in clinical skills training courses. She also worked in a local community clinic and traveled to Quito, Ecuador to provide care to underserved populations.

Dr. Jurkowski completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. During her training, she continued to develop medical education skills, teaching medical students in formal and informal settings. She worked on multiple research projects. She developed an interest in oncology and completed projects on outcomes of patients with esophageal cancer. She is currently interested in general internal medicine with focus on inpatient care and continues to have a special interest in oncology. She has ongoing research projects in oncology and is looking forward to continuing to participate in oncology research. In her spare time she enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, and is looking forward to getting a dog soon. She is looking forward to providing care for her patients as a member of the Division of Hospital Medicine.
