Behzad Amoozgar, MD, MPH

Dr. Behzad Amoozgar joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in July 2021. He was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. He graduated from Tehran University of Medical Science which has the highest rank among all the medical schools in Iran. After graduation Dr. Amoozgar immigrated to Canada and after traveled to the United States and started his job as a research scholar at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). After three years he concluded his research fellowship and as an outstanding researcher, he was awarded permanent residency of the United States through the National Interest Waiver pathway. Dr. Amoozgar completed his internship and residency at Hackensack Meridian Health JFK University Medical Center and concomitantly achieved his master’s in public health (MPH) from the University of California, Berkeley.

During his residency, he was honored with the PGY2 Faculty Award as the best resident during the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, during his second year of residency, he won the 2020 National American College of Physician (ACP) podium for the best clinical research which was reflected on the Healio news. Dr. Amoozgar current areas of interest are clinical and basic science research in the field of hematology-oncology, specifically leukemia, lymphoma, and their innovative therapeutics such as Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-Cell Therapy. In addition, he enjoys teaching medical students and residents. His hobbies include playing drums, working out, cooking, bowling, and listening to music. He also enjoys spending time with colleagues and friends and outdoor activities. He is looking forward to contributing the best of his skills to patient care and medical research.
