Dr. Alex Ryan Lane joined the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as an Instructor in July of 2021. He grew up in Southern Illinois and attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for his undergraduate degree. He graduated with honors and highest distinction in Psychology in 2011. After college, he worked as a Clinical Research Associate coordinating Phase I oncology clinical trials at Washington University’s Siteman Cancer Center. He concurrently performed research analyzing ongoing thoracic oncology trials through registered trials on clinicaltrials.gov. He attended Southern Illinois School of Medicine and obtained his doctorate degree in 2017. Dr. Lane completed his internship and residency at Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 2020, and he was selected as a chief resident for the academic year of 2020-2021.
During his residency, Dr. Lane fostered his interest in medical education creating resident and medical student curricula in high value care, patient safety, and simulated patient encounters. His curriculum in High Value Care was awarded first place in high value curricula at the High Value Care National Conference in 2019. His current areas of interest include medical education, high value care, inpatient general medical care, and a special interest in opiate use disorder. Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants and recipes to cook, and spending time with his wife and dog. He also grew up watching Cardinal baseball and makes it to Spring Training almost every year. He looks forward to providing excellent patient centered care as a member of the Division of Hospital Medicine.
