We are pleased to announce that the Executive Faculty has approved the promotion of Dr. Crystal Atwood to Assistant Professor of Medicine.
Dr. Atwood graduated from University of Illinois at Chicago Medical School in 2009. She completed Internal Medicine residency at Washington University School of Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 2012. Dr. Atwood is board-certified in Internal Medicine. After completing residency, Dr. Atwood remained at Washington University where she joined the Division of Hospital Medicine. She worked as a nocturnist for 5 years. In 2017, due to her interest in teaching residents and medical students, she joined the academic faculty. When she has free time, she is a volunteer attending for the Washington University Medical Students at the Saturday Neighborhood Health Clinic.
In addition to working as one of the teaching faculty in the Division of Hospital Medicine, Dr. Atwood has played an active role with the Society of Hospital Medicine, serving as president of the St. Louis Chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine from 2016-2019. During her tenure, the local chapter received Platinum Chapter status 2 years in a row followed by Silver level status the third year. She is currently serving as SHM St. Louis Chapter’s Treasurer.
Dr. Atwood serves on several committees for both Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Society of Hospital Medicine, including the Transfusion Committee, Drug Utilization Evaluation Subcommittee, and the SHM Chapter Support Committee.
