Patient Care Operations Committee serves the Division of Hospital Medicine (DHM) by coordinating the frontline operations of the division. The committee is one of the largest within the division and has about 20% of the entire hospital medicine faculty as representation. As Co-Directors, Drs. Katy Filson and Zach Morgan, along with the members of the committee, determine the optimal staffing to meet DHM patient care obligations among the many growing service lines. They set expectations and create policies and procedures across patient care operations to ensure high quality care and throughput. Integral to their responsibilities is adaptability to dynamic hospital conditions and interdisciplinary communication with other departments such as the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units. The scope of the clinical operations and diverse talents of the Hospitalist faculty necessitates their leadership in many hospital- and system-wide projects. They intend to work closely with other DHM Committees such as Quality Improvement/Patient Safety, Wellness, and Education to incorporate all aspects of the Hospitalist mission into patient care operations. Drs. Filson and Morgan aim to help guide the DHM as it expands its clinical and academic reach over the coming years.
It is an honor to be selected to the Co-Director position, and I am excited to help our division improve in clinical operations and overall physician work-life satisfaction.
Katy Filson, MD
