One can always find Hospitalist Special Projects Administrator, Christal Mills, supporting various charitable events throughout the year. Whether Christal is chairing the event or showing her support through donations, her generosity is limitless. One of the many non-for-profit organizations that runs near and dear to her heart is Friends of Kids with Cancer.
Friends of Kids with Cancer is devoted to enriching the daily lives of children undergoing treatment for, and survivors of, cancer and blood-related diseases. Their mission is to be an advocate for these special kids and provide them and their families with the educational, emotional, and recreational support needed as a result of the long hours of chemotherapy, illness, and isolation. Hospital stays and medical procedures can cause significant financial stress for the families. These burdens become especially difficult during the cold, holiday season.
This November, Christal “adopted” a family with six children. The children range in age from 6 years old and younger. Two of the siblings are currently undergoing treatment. Enlisting support from other colleagues, such as Mary Russell, Melinda Rubio, and Dr. Myra Rubio, they were able to provide all the necessary items to keep the family warm during the winter weather. Their collection of new winter items, such as coats, scarves, gloves, and hats, allowed the family to focus on spending more time together.
