Elissa Arnold, MD, Receives an Accolade for Contributing to a Positive Learning Environment

Elissa Arnold

The Washington University SAFE (Supporting a Fair Environment) Program allows individuals to report their experiences in the learning environment. On April 12th, 2024, Dr. Elissa Arnold received an Accolade for contributing to a positive learning environment.

One of her students had excellent feedback for her, stating, “I worked with Dr. Arnold for a full week on the Hospitalist service. She was an incredible mentor to work with one-on-one and she taught me so much. She made me feel incredibly welcome in the clinical space and created a safe environment for me to learn and grow from mistakes. She helped me set goals at the beginning of my rotation with her, and provided actionable, constructive feedback on a daily basis. She has exceptional insight into the knowledge gaps of a medical student and was able to proactively provide teaching on the go. She allowed ample opportunity to take ownership of patients and allowed me to grow in not only in my practice of foundational knowledge, but clinical skills (history taking, exam, bedside shared decision making, calling consults), and interprofessional discussions regarding disposition. My time with her was memorable for the intention space and time she would set aside for me to participate in and contribute to patient care, despite that meaning that some aspects of the day may have been less efficient. Working with her was the first time I’ve felt comfortable working in internal medicine, and she has helped me to grow my confidence in the clinical setting so much! I had so much fun with her, and she will truly make an excellent clinician and educator wherever she goes.”
