This was the first Roads to Success seminar to be sponsored by the Department of Medicine and to be offered to all faculty in the department.  The seminar was attended by 16 faculty from the divisions of hospital medicine, general medicine, gastroenterology, allergy/immunology, endocrinology, and oncology.

“The Roads to Success faculty seminar provides instruction in various aspects of medical education, outlines various career paths within academic medicine, summarizes career advancement strategies and promotion requirements, discusses how to initiate quality improvement projects, describes wellness strategies, and identifies ways to find a mentor and be a successful mentee.”

Eileen Lee, MD

The Roads to Success faculty seminar provides instruction in various aspects of medical education (e.g., creating a clinical learning environment, setting expectations, providing feedback, public speaking, and the creation of miniature lectures), outlines various career paths within academic medicine, summarizes career advancement strategies and promotion requirements, discusses how to initiate quality improvement projects, describes wellness strategies, and identifies ways to find a mentor and be a successful mentee. The seminar includes the chance to practice some of these skills in interactive breakout sessions and small group work. The target audience is junior faculty. Overall, attendees report high levels of satisfaction with the seminar’s content and presentation.  The seminar lasts 1.5 days and is currently being run twice annually (in the early and late fall) for members of the Division of Hospital Medicine and once annually for all members of the Department of Medicine.
