Congratulations to Natalia Brito Rivera, MD, MPHS, Jeffrey Choi, MD, MS, Madeline Grondalski, RN, MD, Sonya Liu, MD, and Diana Zhao, MD, PhD, on their promotions to Assistant Professor of Medicine in July of 2025.

Natalia Brito Rivera, MD, MPHS, works primarily on the internal medicine and medical oncology services, where she provides direct patient care, as well as teaching students and residents in a clinical setting. Dr. Brito Rivera is the head of the hospital medicine IDEAS Committee, and a member of the Education Committee. As the head of the IDEAS Committee, Natalia provides her colleagues with valuable volunteer opportunities to serve the community, educates them about diverse cultures and perspectives, and fosters a welcoming environment for people from all backgrounds. She also aids in the recruitment and retention of internal medicine candidates as an interviewer.

Jeffrey Choi, MD, MS, provides direct clinical care on the day and night hospitalist services, oncology, and BMT. Dr. Choi has interests in general inpatient care, with a focus on safe transitional care and health literacy. Jeffrey aims to become more involved in medical education within the department of medicine. He serves on the Patient Care Operations Committee, where he assists with making improvements in clinical operations to provide better patient care.

Madeline Grondalski, RN, MD, serves mainly on the oncology and BMT services, where she enjoys teaching and mentoring students and residents. Dr. Grondalski serves on both the Orientation and Oncology/BMT Committees. Along with interviewing candidates, she also helps with orientation for new faculty. In addition to her medical training, Madeline has completed her nursing education, with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She has interests in multidisciplinary communication, patient experience, and medical trainee wellness.

Sonya Liu, MD, enjoys working on a variety of inpatient hospitalist services including general inpatient care, medicine firm, nocturnist/admitter, ED hospitalist, oncology/BMT, West County, and medical consultation services at TRISL. Dr. Liu serves on the Patient Care Operations Committee. She is also a part of the WashU Medicine Admissions Committee, where she reviews and rates applications as part of the medical student admissions process. Sonya has interests in antimicrobial stewardship and optimizing transitions of care.

Diana Zhao, MD, PhD, works primarily as a night hospitalist. Dr. Zhao has interests in teaching and mentoring students. She aids in the recruitment of internal medicine resident candidates through the IM program as an interviewer. Diana also serves on the Patient Care Operations Committee.
